Marathon Runner Steve Fonyo Stabbed In Possible Home Invasion In Surrey

    SURREY, B.C. — Steve Fonyo, who carried on the legacy of Terry Fox and raised millions for cancer research, is reportedly in hospital with serious injuries after a possible home invasion near Vancouver.
     
    The RCMP says a 49-year-old man was stabbed in an early morning assault involving three suspects at a home in Surrey, B.C., but police have not released the victim's name.
     
    Local media and the CBC have identified the man as Fonyo.
     
    Fonyo's mother Anna confirmed to The Canadian Press that her son is in hospital, but she did not know what happened to him.
     
    Jag Sidhu, who owns a house that has been surrounded by police tape, confirms Fonyo lives in the home.
     
    Fonyo's life has been plagued by legal troubles in recent years, including convictions for fraud, threatening his wife, assault and drunk driving.
