Masked Man With Meat Cleaver Arrested In Vancouver, Charged In Alleged Attack On The Drive

The Canadian Press, 24 Nov, 2016 11:08 AM
A man wearing a mask and wielding a knife has been arrested after threatening a pedestrian and fighting with police.

Just after 7:30 last night, police were called to the area of East Broadway and Commercial Drive after a 25-year-old man was allegedly threatened by a masked man carrying a meat cleaver.

Police received several 9-1-1 calls and, with the help of the public, officers quickly located the suspect on Commercial Drive near East 7th Avenue. He did not comply with police directions and officers eventually had to Taser him. The less-lethal force was not completely effective and he continued to resist and fight with police.

Officers recovered the meat cleaver at the scene and found a second knife in his possession after he was arrested.

“This is a situation that could have ended badly for everyone,” says VPD Constable Jason Doucette. “We are thankful this person was quickly located and no one was seriously hurt.”

The reason for the attack is not clear and the victim and suspect are not known to each other.

The victim and the officers involved were not injured. The suspect was medically assessed at hospital before going to jail.

Thirty-nine-year-old Vancouver resident Jeremy Ross Lindstrom remains in custody and has been charged with:

    Assault With A Weapon

Disguising Face With Intent To Commit An Offence

Possessing A Weapon For A Dangerous Purpose

    Uttering Threats
