  • Member of Parliament Wade Chang Visits Burnaby’s Neil Squire Society

Wade Chang, Member of Parliament for Burnaby Central, recently paid a visit to the Neil Squire Society, a Canadian national non-profit organization, and leader in assistive technology.

During the visit, MP Chang learned about the Society’s Creative Employment Options and Empower3D employment programs.

Narada Thomas, a participant who is deaf and who faced communication challenges and barriers to finding employment, was on hand to provide a firsthand account of how Neil Squire’s employment team helped him gain employment as an HVAC technician.

“The Neil Squire Creative Employment Options program helped me to gain more confidence with my job-hunting efforts. Thus, it helped to boost my self-esteem and independence,” he shared.

Assistive Technology demonstrations from the Society’s Makers Making Change and Solutions teams were provided, and program staff shared information about the Computer Comfort and Computer Refurbishing programs.

“It was such a wonderful experience showing MP Chang around as he was so engaged in hearing all about the impact that we have achieved with our various programs, most of which are funded through federal government contracts,” says Gary Birch, Executive Director of the Neil Squire Society. “We always like to show off the important work we do, and we are looking forward to more visits and continued dialogue with MP Chang.”

During the visit, MP Chang presented a certificate to the Neil Squire Society in recognition of their dedication and commitment to empowering Canadians with disabilities through innovative technology, skills training, and employment programs.

Since 1984, the Neil Squire Society has served well over 100,000 Canadians with disabilities from coast to coast. Their work helps to ensure people of all ability have the opportunity to live, work, and play without barriers.
