Missing hiker with arrest warrant found after friends delay police report, says RCMP

Mounties in British Columbia are asking the public to be honest after a missing hiker's friends delayed reporting her disappearance to police.

Port Alberni RCMP say they received a report for the missing hiker on Monday morning after she disappeared at around 2:30 p.m. the previous day.

The woman was later found on Monday afternoon without appropriate outerwear and taken to hospital.

Police say her friends, who searched throughout the day and night that she was missing, didn't immediately report her disappearance because there was an arrest warrant for her and they wanted to avoid interaction with officers.

Mounties say investigators had to analyze cryptic details in the police report to determine where to look for the missing hiker, putting her life at risk.

Police say the woman's warrant was addressed after she was found.

Police in Metro Vancouver say three people have been charged after a multi-year investigation into an alleged drug trafficking operation in Richmond. R-C-M-P say the probe began in November 2021, and searches at multiple properties in that city, as well as Vancouver, turned up some 15-hundred tablets of alleged M-D-M-A as well as 3.6 kilograms of methamphetamine.

A government-funded report says Black executives within the public service are subjected to harassment and intimidation, career stagnation, unjust workloads and, as one executive wrote, a "cesspool of racism." Lawyer Rachel Zellars, who authored the report for the Black Executives Network, wrote that the interviews she conducted with 73 participants were the "most distressing" she has witnessed and recorded. 2 dozen tires slashed in Nanaimo

A man has been arrested in connection to dozens of tires being slashed overnight in two Nanaimo parking lots. R-C-M-P say officers located 20 vehicles with their tires slashed in a parking lot in the 200 block of Franklyn Street, while another three vehicles with slashed tires were found a short time later in the 300 block of Selby Street.
