Darpan News Desk IANS, 16 Jul, 2014 11:15 AM
Baldev Kalsi, 66, president of the Brookside Sikh Gurudwara in Surrey city in western Canada's British Columbia province, was arrested after his wife Narinder Kalsi was found in severe medical distress at their home Sunday, CBC reported Tuesday.

He has been charged with attempting to murder his wife, media report suggest.

Subsequently, Kalsi was charged with one count of aggravated assault Monday for incurring life threatening injuries to his wife which was upgraded to attempted murder by Tuesday, according to a tweet by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Narinder Kalsi has remained critical since she was assaulted and is currently on life support.

Police received a call Sunday that a woman was in distress at a home in South Surrey.

When they arrived to the scene, they found the woman with life-threatening injuries.

The victim was transported to hospital by a British Columbia Air Ambulance.

Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound told in a statement, “This tragic incident is domestic related and not a random attack. The victim remains in hospital on life support and in critical condition,” .

IHIT is continuing to investigate by canvassing the neighbourhood and processing the attack scene with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section.
