Multiple injuries reported in crash of tour bus, truck, car near Syracuse, N.Y.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 06 Nov, 2014 10:43 AM

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Authorities say a crash on a New York interstate involving a tour bus, tractor-trailer and a car has left multiple people injured and media reports say the bus came from Toronto.

Local media report that the accident occurred at 2:45 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Nedrow, just south of Syracuse.

Onondaga County sheriff's detective Jon Seeber tells The Post-Standard that the bus was heading from Toronto to New York City and that there was a language barrier between some of the passengers and rescue crews.

The sheriff's office says that 52 people were on the board the Pine Hills Trailways bus involved in the crash.

Officials say there are no fatalities and that the bus driver suffered the most serious injuries.

Twenty-six of the passengers and the driver were transported to hospitals.

The sheriff's office says the tractor-trailer pulled over to help the driver of car that had crashed just before the bus struck both vehicles.

Police say the car driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

I-81's southbound lanes were closed until shortly before 5:30 a.m.
