New Westminster Philanthropist Plans to Continue Giving Back After $675,000 Set for Life Win

Darpan News Desk, 15 Jan, 2020 10:15 PM

When Eleanor Kendall scratched her way to a Set for Life top prize of $675,000, she knew she wanted to use the money to give back. The New Westminster resident plans to put some of the money into her family’s endowment fund at a Lower Mainland university.

“My husband and I are big supporters of programs that encourage women to go into the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and early childhood development,” Kendall said. “We already have an endowment in our name so we will use some of the money to top it up.”

Kendall was at home and about to do the laundry when she decided to scratch the Set for Life ticket, which she purchased at the Save-on-Foods in Royal City Centre.

“I had to count it a few times to make sure I really won.”

When asked if she plans to do something for herself, Kendall explained she is more excited to use the winnings to help her family. “I firmly believe we all need some help sometimes,” she said. “No one helped me but we have to help the kids — they are the future.”
