Newfoundland Health Worker Fired For Privacy Breach Involving 25 Patients

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland's largest health authority has fired a clerk for snooping into the private files of 25 patients.

Eastern Health President and CEO David Diamond says it's a disturbing privacy breach and that all affected patients will be notified.

Diamond says the violations are especially troubling because the authority has a clearly stated zero tolerance policy to prevent such acts.

Workers sign an employee oath of confidentiality when they're hired.

Still, Eastern Health has reported several privacy breaches in recent years.

It caught this latest incident last month during a random audit that revealed patients' files were wrongly accessed over several months.
