No charges for dog handler

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 31 Jul, 2023 12:18 PM
  • No charges for dog handler

A dog handler with the Abbotsford Police Department will not face charges linked to an arrest more than two years ago where the suspect was seriously injured.

The Independent Investigations Office looked into the March 2021 arrest and determined the officer may have committed offences.

But a statement from the B-C Prosecution Service says the available evidence does not meet the standard that would prove any wrongdoing, beyond a reasonable doubt.

The prosecution service says the suspect, who was arrested after a van was stolen and used to commit at least one other crime, needed 20 to 25 stitches when the dog bit him once on the back of the upper right thigh during the arrest.
