No Fishing Allowed On Portion Of Shuswap River

Darpan, 13 Jun, 2016 01:12 PM
ENDERBY – The Province is closing a small section of the Shuswap River around Trinity Bridge to angling, to protect migrating chinook salmon.

The closure runs 50 metres upstream and 50 metres downstream of the bridge, near Enderby, and is in effect from June 15, 2016 until Nov. 15, 2016.  Fisheries and Oceans Canada has closed the same section to chinook angling.

The closure will prevent people from fishing off the bridge, which was disrupting the ongoing salmon spawn.

    Quick Facts:

Under the federal Fisheries Act, the Province is responsible for non-salmon freshwater fisheries, including sea-run steelhead, cutthroat and Dolly Varden.

The federal government is responsible for First Nations fisheries, commercial and recreational fisheries in tidal waters, and salmon fisheries in non-tidal waters.
