North Vancouver RCMP arrest a man who claimed to be a police officer

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 18 Mar, 2025 04:54 PM
  • North Vancouver RCMP arrest a man who claimed to be a police officer

Mounties in North Vancouver say they've arrested a man for impersonating an officer and they believe there may be more than one victim.

Police have released a photo of a dark grey Ford F-150 that they say was seized when the driver was arrested earlier this month, and they're asking if anyone else was pulled over by the truck.

They say police were called on March 1 when a man driving a Ford F-150 with a flashing red and white light display pulled over a Tesla and identified himself as a North Vancouver RCMP officer.

Police say the officer wasn't wearing a police uniform, he didn't have any police equipment on him and didn't give any police identification.

They say the driver was arrested a few days later, and investigators have since determined there could be additional victims pulled over by the same man.

Police say there are several ways for people to protect themselves if they believe they've been pulled over by someone who isn't an officer, including asking for their identification, calling 911 right away and trusting your instincts because genuine officers will understand and support your caution.

BC Coroners Service data show nearly half the people who died in January due to unregulated toxic drugs had the depressant bromazolam in their system, which researchers say highlights "emerging dangers" in the illicit drug supply even as deaths decline. The coroners service said Friday that 152 people died of toxic drug overdoses in January, marking four consecutive months that the toll was under 160.
