Northern B.C. Man Killed In Crash With Diesel Tanker Near Hope, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Jan, 2020 09:07 PM

VANCOUVER - RCMP say a British Columbia man has died in a head-on crash with a tanker truck east of Vancouver.

Cpl. Mike Halskov with BC RCMP Traffic Services says the collision happened Monday afternoon on Highway 1 just north of Hope.

He says conditions were snowy and slushy when the driver, in his 70s from northern B.C., crossed into the path of the oncoming truck and died at the scene.

The truck driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A hazardous materials team was needed to recover diesel from the tanker and clean up but Halskov says no fuel spilled into the surrounding environment.

The crash closed the highway for more than 12 hours and the cause remains under investigation but police say alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been involved.
