Nova Scotia Auditor General Appointed To Same Post In British Columbia

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Mar, 2020 07:06 PM

VICTORIA - An all-party committee of the B.C. legislature is recommending that Nova Scotia's auditor general be appointed to the same position in the Western province.

Michael Pickup has been the auditor general in Nova Scotia since 2014.

Doug Routley, chair of the committee, says its members were impressed by Pickup's leadership and ability to lead and motivate staff.

Pickup is expected to be formally appointed when regular sittings of the legislature resume after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pickup's appointment would start July 27 and he would replace Carol Bellringer, who was the province's auditor general from 2014 to 2019.

In B.C., auditor generals, who are non-partisan officers of the legislature, are appointed for eight-year terms.
