One dead in float plane crash in remote area of B.C.'s central coast

Police say one person is dead after a float plane crashed in a remote area along British Columbia's central coast.

Mounties in the Vancouver Island community of Port Hardy, southwest of the crash site, say the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria notified the detachment of the crash on Wednesday night.

They say a specialized search and rescue unit went to the scene and found one of the plane's three occupants had died in the crash.

It happened in Warner Bay, located north of the Broughton islands and Broughton Archipelago Marine Provincial Park.

Police say they are working with the Transportation Safety Board and the coroner's office, and the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The Mounties say an underwater recovery team has been called in to support the investigation.

Environment Canada has added a dust advisories for a large section of central and northern British Columbia in response to "high concentrations of coarse particulate matter" that it says is most prominent near busy roads.
