White Rock fire officials say one person is dead after a blaze broke out in an apartment unit.

Firefighters were called to the building over the weekend and contained the blaze to one apartment, but there was water and smoke damage in other areas.

Officials say the victim was in the apartment where the fire originated and it is not considered suspicious.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Disregarded policies and a failure of management led to the development of the inordinately costly and much-maligned ArriveCan app, an investigation by Canada's auditor general has found.  The federal government launched the app in April 2020 as a way to track health and contact information for people entering Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to digitize customs and immigration declarations.
