One Killed In Crash Between SUV And Truck Hauling Sewage Near Victoria

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Aug, 2018 01:15 PM
VICTORIA — The driver of a sewage truck has died after a crash Wednesday on a highway just north of Victoria.

West Shore RCMP say the crash happened just after 8 a.m. when the truck and an SUV collided along a section of the Malahat highway.

The driver of the truck was killed but the driver and passenger of the SUV survived, although they are being treated in hospital for injuries.

Spills of raw sewage and diesel from the truck have been contained on the road and RCMP say neither of the substances seeped into area waterways.

DriveBC, the provincial government's online site for travellers, says the route will remain closed until a cleanup is complete, but a detour was in effect.

A cause of the crash remains under investigation.
