One Man Killed In Surrey, B.C., Crash That Closes Peace Arch Border Crossing

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 03 May, 2019 05:38 PM

SURREY, B.C. — A deadly crash in Surrey, B.C., near the Peace Arch border crossing into Washington state has forced a shutdown of the crossing for those returning to Canada.

The crash on Highway 99 involved two vehicles and was just 300 metres from the Canada-U.S. border.

Police say the collision between a Porsche SUV and a Toyota van set off a fire in the van.

The male driver and only occupant in the van was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the SUV was being transported to hospital with injuries that aren't considered life threatening.

Police say northbound traffic on the highway into the Peace Arch crossing is closed, although southbound traffic has reopened.

The RCMP criminal collision investigation team has taken over the investigation and police say it's unclear when the border would reopen.
