One Suspect In Custody After Targeted Double Shooting In Burnaby Sends Two To Hospital

Darpan News Desk, 12 May, 2017 01:49 PM
On May 11, 2017, at approximately 6 p.m., Burnaby RCMP was called to the 6700-block of Broadway Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon police attendance, two people were located outside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to hospital by ambulance in serious condition. Currently both victims are in serious but stable condition.

The victims, a 52-year-old male and a 39-year old female, are not Burnaby residents.

The investigation led police to a residence in the 4400-block of Albert Street where the suspect was arrested and taken into custody without incident. The male suspect is a 58-year-old Burnaby resident.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering stage, therefore no further information will be provided at this time. It does appear from our initial investigation that the parties were known to each other.

Once this suspect had been identified, our officers quickly located him and made the arrest. His actions were obviously of concern to the police, so it was critical for us to find him and arrest him as soon as possible, says the spokesperson for Burnaby RCMP Corporal Daniela Panesar.

Inspector Sanjaya Wijayakoon, the Burnaby RCMP Investigative Services Officer added, this incident was a priority for our investigators to ensure public safety and fortunately we were able to arrest the suspect soon after the incident with the assistance of a number of our units at Burnaby Detachment and the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online at www.solvecrime.ca
