One Wildfire Evacuation Order Left In B.C., But Flames Are Still Raging

The Canadian Press Darpan, 19 Aug, 2014 03:22 PM
VANCOUVER - Wildfires in British Columbia are choking the air in some regions with smoke and forcing officials to maintain a handful of evacuation alerts, orders and air-quality advisories.

Navi Saini of the Wildfire Management Branch says only one evacuation order remains in place for cabin owners in the Entiako Provincial Park, which is under threat from the 114,000-hectare Chelaslie River fire in the northwest.

But she says six less-serious evacuation alerts are in effect in the northwest and Prince George fire regions.

The Ministry of Environment has also issued smoke advisories for the northwest communities of Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson and surrounding the areas.

A similar advisory remains in place for Williams Lake and surrounding areas.

Saini says the wildfire danger rating remains high to extreme in the Prince George region, where there has been a lack of rainfall and more dry lightening is expected.
