  • Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne happy that John Tory is new Toronto mayor

BEIJING — Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne says she's happy John Tory is Toronto's new mayor because she knows she can work with him.

Tory was elected mayor on Monday as he defeated Doug Ford and Olivia Chow.

Wynne was also asked today about suggestions Ford might run for the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.

She said she didn't want to wade into her rivals' leadership race but did point out it would be quite the contrast if Ford were leader.

Wynne made the comments while on a trade mission to China where she was accompanied by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard and Prince Edward Island Premier Robert Ghiz.

There are currently five candidates in the Ontario Tory race, with the new leader to be announced in early May.
