Ontrio Police Denounce Trophy Hunting After Headless Deer Carcasses Found

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Nov, 2015 12:36 PM
NORTH DUMFRIES, Ont. — Ontario provincial police are denouncing what they call illegal trophy hunting after two deer carcasses were found on the side of a road in a rural community for the second time this week.

Police say a resident found the carcasses — which were missing their heads and fur — around noon Monday in North Dumfries, near Cambridge.

OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk says the carcasses were stuffed inside garbage bags and appear to have been dumped sometime between Friday and Monday.

He says two carcasses in a similar condition were found Sunday. It's believed they were dumped there four days earlier.

Police say the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is also investigating.

Ontario's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act prohibits hunters from wasting the flesh of animals suitable for food — an infraction that carries a $150 fine.

No true hunters "would leave good meat out there to rot," Sanchuk said.
