KELOWNA, B.C. — A tug boat operator is dead after the commercial vessel sank in Okanagan Lake near Kelowna, B.C.

Police say they received several emergency calls from employees at the Tolko sawmill on Monday night saying the tug sank near the mill's location.

A search was launched for the boat's operator and it was later confirmed the person was dead inside the sunken tug.

RCMP Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says an underwater recovery team was sent to find the body.

He says an investigation is underway into the sinking and the name of the deceased hasn't been released.
