OPINION: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s ISIS Ambassadors

Shinder Purewal, 06 Feb, 2018 01:56 PM
In his year end interview with CTV, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated with confidence that, barring some, most ISIS fighters returning to Canada could play a positive role in community outreach programs.

“We know that someone who has engaged and turned away from that hateful ideology can be an extraordinary powerful voice for preventing radicalization in future generations and younger people within the community,” said the Prime Minister.

Let us first clear the air why our Prime Minister has no idea about the reasons for the return of Canadian ISIS fighters- They were defeated! They did not turn away from ‘that hateful ideology’ but came home to save their lives from Iraqi, Syrian, Kurdish and other foreign forces, including our men and women serving bravely in the battle zones along with our allies.

What kind of advise can younger generation of certain faith receive from these barbaric killers? ISIS was known to recruit younger children to become suicide bombers for the sake of ‘Jihad’. One of its celebrated martyr was a ten years old bomber, who had killed an ‘Israeli spy’. While recruiting children for its barbaric mission, ISIS did not stop ‘teaching lessons’ to children through terror tactics. Three years back in Mosul, it executed thirteen teenage boys because they were watching a soccer game.

For a self-described feminist Prime Minister, what kind of views these ‘role models’ will spread about women? ISIS and other Islamist groups use Verse 34 from Quran to justify their views about women: ‘Men are guardians of women because they spend out of their wealth’.

Another favourite citation of these orthodox forces is a quote from Hadith attributed to Prophet Mohammad: “a people will not prosper if they put a woman in charge of their affairs”.

In order to justify violence against women, including wife beatings, the ISIS orthodoxy has promoted the most conservative jurisprudence of Islam- Imam Shafii. This interpretation gives most matrimonial rights, including the right to divorce, only to men.

They promote polygamy allowing four wives for men, and the status of a woman as half of a man. Thus, if a woman’s testimony has to be recorded, two women are equal to one man in sharia courts with men judges. Justifying every action in the name of Islam and Islamic history, ISIS captured non-Muslim women and sold them as ‘sex-slaves’.

On the issue of Niqab (total covering of a woman except her eyes), our Prime Minister and the Progressive left share the orthodox ideology of Islamists of ISIS, Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Meantime, even fundamentalist Islamic scholars, let alone feminist voices in Islamic societies, have declared Niqab an un- Islamic ritual. Egyptian Grand Imam Sheik Mohammad Tantawi stated that ‘the traditional headscarf (Hijab) is what is obligatory. This means covering the entire body except the face and the hands’.

In our multicultural society, what would these ISIS ‘role models’ teach to our younger generation? Initially, al-Zarqawi, the founder of ISIS in Iraq, had declared all Shia Muslims as enemies of Islam, thus advocating their mass killings. It goes without saying that all non-Muslims must be eliminated to pave the way for the arrival of Mehdi for the final battle in Dabiq between the forces of good, the Muslims, and the evil Kafirs, all others but particularly the Christians.

Since the ISIS fanatics considered themselves soldiers of ‘Allah’, the enemy list did not stop at ‘Kafirs’ and Shia Muslims. They also targeted Sunni Muslims, who did not believe in the ‘correct’ (ISIS) interpretation of Islam. The barbaric method of executions by either shooting or beheading was not limited for non-Muslims, but many within the Muslim society also fell victims of this killing machine because they disagreed with ISIS interpretation of Islam and Islamic traditions.

While it is the domain of sociologists and psychologists to understand why some Canadians living in a socially progressive and peaceful society decided to leave and join the most barbaric force of recent time, we know that the fear of death with the defeat of ISIS has brought them back to our safe haven.

For the sake of sanity, let us hope our Prime Minister does not offer $10 million to each ISIS member as welcome back gift to ‘our home and native land’, just like Omar Khadr!
