Pan Am Ticket Sales Expected To Hit A Million By End Of Day, Organizers Say

The Canadian Press, 18 Jul, 2015 11:39 AM
ORONTO — Pan Am Games organizers say they expect ticket sales to hit a million by the end of the day.

Ticket sales for the Games appeared sluggish at first, with roughly half of the 1.4 million available sold before the international competition began last week.

But sales gained momentum after the sold-out July 10 opening ceremony, with daily sales doubling to more than 20,000.

Saad Rafi, CEO of the Games' organizing committee, says many of the gold-medal events are sold out, but fans should check regularly in case more tickets become available.

Ticket sales are expected to cover about $40 million of the Games' $2.5-billion budget, with the rest coming from the federal, provincial and local governments.

The Games, the largest international multi-sport event ever held in Canada, run until July 26, with the Parapan Am Games to follow in August.
