Police Arrest Nasradin Abdusamad, 23, Accused Of Lighting Fires, Placing Devices In Vancouver College

The Canadian Press, 02 Apr, 2019 08:24 PM

Vancouver police say they've arrested a man in his 20s accused of entering a college with incendiary devices and lighting fires.

Police say in a news release that just before noon on Monday, first responders received reports of a suspicious fire on the Langara College campus.

After speaking with witnesses, officers say they determined that a suspect had allegedly entered the college with incendiary devices.

Police say it appears the suspect may have lit one or more fires before fleeing from the scene.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Service and BC Ambulance also responded and a co-ordinated response with college staff led to the school being evacuated.

There were no reported injuries and the VPD's Emergency Response Section says it systematically searched the campus and found a number of suspicious devices.

Police say the search is expected to continue into the night.

After officers arrived on scene, police say the suspect was quickly identified and investigators took steps to locate him.

He was arrested in Surrey by Metro Vancouver Transit Police just after 4 p.m., turned over to Vancouver police and taken into custody.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to come forward to police.
