Police, Family Ask For Clues In Finding 13-Year-Old Burnaby Girl Marrisa Shen’s Killer

The Canadian Press, 18 Jul, 2018 12:38 PM
BURNABY, B.C. — On the one-year anniversary of 13-year-old Marrisa Shen's murder in Burnaby, B.C., her family and the police are pleading with anyone who may have information to come forward.

Cpl. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team read a statement from the family that says Shen loved life, had a beautiful smile and they were supposed to watch her grow up but instead are left wondering what could've been.

Shen's body was found in a wooded area in Burnaby’s Central Park around 1 a.m. on July 19, about an hour and a half after her mother reported her missing and six hours after she’d been seen in a coffee shop's security video.

Jang says there are no suspects and no new information to share in the "random attack" and he's asking anyone who may have seen Shen or been in the park that day to come forward and share any information, photos or video they may have.

He says a large number of investigators are working on the case and they have followed up on 200 tips from the public, watched 1,000 hours of video and interviewed 600 people.

Jang insists police are closer today to finding Shen’s killer than they were six months or a year ago, but they need the public’s help, and he wants to assure concerned residents and Shen's family that they have not given up.
