  • Police investigate shooting in Newton

Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit is investigating after a shooting in Newton, Tuesday night.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of gunshots that were heard in the 8800-block of 140B Street. Frontline officers attended and located evidence of a shooting outside of a residence in that area.

Further investigation, including a review of video, shows that shots were fired from a dark coloured vehicle at an individual who fled in a second vehicle prior to police arrival. There is no evidence that anyone was injured in the shooting.

Police have identified the person who was targeted in this incident and are looking to speak with them. Investigators are working with limited cooperation from witnesses at the residence where this shooting took place.

Investigators believe that this was not a random incident. The person who was targeted in this shooting is known to police.

Further work will be done to determine if this shooting is connected to other violent incidents, or is connected to gang activity in the Lower Mainland Region.
