Police Say Vancouver Island Man Dead After Sliding On Ice, Slamming Into Semi

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Jan, 2015 11:18 AM
COURTENAY, B.C. — Mounties on Vancouver Island say a man is dead after his truck slid on a patch of black ice into a semi-trailer.

Constable Chris Mousseau says the man was driving on Island Highway near Courtenay on Monday when his pickup lost control.

He says the truck slid off the road, across a grass meridian, and into an oncoming lane where he slammed into the semi at about 9:00 a.m.

The accident scattered debris across the highway and the road was closed in both directions for several hours.

Police say the man is from Parksville, but aren't releasing his name.

Mousseau says the accident is an important reminder for drivers to be prepared for icy conditions.
