TORONTO — Premier Kathleen Wynne says the alleged murders of eight nursing home residents by a nurse are "extremely distressing."
 
Seven of the alleged victims were living in a home in Woodstock, Ont., while another was in a facility in London, Ont.
 
A New Democrat who represents the London area asked the premier in question period today how this went undetected for 10 years without the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care noticing.
 
Wynne says it would be inappropriate for her to comment on an ongoing police investigation, but she says it is an "extremely distressing and tragic, tragic thing for all of the families involved."
 
Elizabeth Tracey Mae Wettlaufer, 49, of Woodstock, Ont., has been charged with eight counts of first-degree murder.
 
Police said they believe Wettlaufer also worked at other long-term care facilities in the province but could not specify which ones, nor would they speak to a motive.
