Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Jan, 2015 10:38 AM

Kyle Lowry has gotten some major support in his bid to be an NBA all-star: Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Harper encouraged his Twitter followers to vote for the Toronto Raptors guard on Tuesday night in the NBA's online all-star voting.

"Canadian basketball fans should get behind Kyle Lowry, who deserves to be an NBA All Star," tweeted Harper, adding the hashtags "#NBABALLOT," "#wethenorth" and Lowry's Twitter handle "@Klow7."

Lowry was named the Eastern Conference's player of the month for December on Monday. He's averaging 20.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game this season and has led the Raptors to first in the Atlantic Division and third in the East.

In the most recent poll, released Jan. 1, Lowry was fourth among Eastern Conference backcourt players with 274,741 all-star votes. Lebron James of the Cleveand Cavaliers led all players with 775,810 votes

NBA all-star balloting ends on Jan. 19, with team starters being announced on Jan. 22.
