RCMP arrests 20-year-old man in Surrey in June Sex Assault on Vancouver Island

The Canadian Press , 03 Oct, 2014 05:16 PM

LANGFORD, B.C. - Mounties have arrested a 20-year-old man in Surrey, B.C., for a summertime sexual assault on a popular southern Vancouver Island walking trail.

The female victim was walking down the Galloping Goose Trail in Langford early June 26 when she was grabbed by the suspect, dragged about 100 metres and sexually assaulted.

RCMP say the woman was able to fight off the suspect and received help from a passing motorist.

Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz of the West Shore RCMP says Bradley Muscat was arrested without incident on Surrey's King George Boulevard.

Muscat faces charges of sexual assault with a weapon, robbery, and forcible confinement and was expected to appear in court Friday.

Inspector Larry Chomyn of the West Shore RCMP says the arrest followed a co-ordinated investigation by Mounties on southern Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver, as well as forensic experts.
