RCMP Charge Preventatively Detained Ontario Man Kevin Mohamed With Terror Offence

The Canadian Press, 29 Mar, 2016 11:54 AM
BRAMPTON, Ont. — RCMP today laid a terror-related charge against an Ontario man initially detained out of fear he might commit a terrorism act.

Kevin Mohamed, 23, of Ajax, Ont., appeared in court in Brampton, Ont., briefly today and was remanded until April 19 for a bail hearing.

The Crown told court a bail hearing for Mohamed could take up to three days.

Mohamed, 23, was arrested Friday in Waterloo, Ont., under a recent law that essentially allows detention without charge.

Police initially charged him with two minor weapons offences related to a hunting knife but have also now charged him with participation in a terrorist group.

It remains unclear what police allege Mohamed did or was planning to do.
