RCMP investigates drone flying in path of landing aircrafts at YVR airport

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 02 Jul, 2014 12:56 PM
A drone flying dangerously close to aircraft at Vancouver's YVR airport Monday has gotten RCMP officials investigate the scene.

Mounties are saying that they received a report from traffic Monday about a drone flying over a runway on the airport's north side.

Police have not been able to find the individual flying the drone but officials continue to investigate.

RCMP Sgt. Cam Kowalski spoke to CBC about the dangers of flying drones over runways.

"It puts people in danger and puts them at risk, puts the community at risk," Kowalski said. "We take these incidents very seriously."

"It's incredibly dangerous and incredibly stupid, so we will investigate this every way that we possibly can."

Meanwhile, the RCMP is saying that if they track down the person who was flying the drone, they will consider laying charges. This could translate into a substantial fine under the Aeronautics Act or a penalty in line with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, according to Kowalski.
