RCMP investigates off-base death of a soldier in New Brunswick

    OROMOCTO, N.B. — A military spokesman says the RCMP has informed the Canadian Forces that the death of a soldier in New Brunswick was not the result of foul play.

    Capt. Jamie Donovan of CFB Gagetown says the body of Cpl. Scott Smith was found in his home off the base on Wednesday.

    Smith was an infantryman with the Second Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment.

    Donovan said the RCMP informed the military that Smith's death was not suspicious in nature.

    He did not release any other details.
