RCMP Launch Winter Impaired-Driving CounterAttack

Darpan News Desk, 06 Dec, 2019 09:46 PM

It became apparent last weekend that not all driver’s heeded the advance warning about the launch of the December CounterAttack campaign.

Twelve impaired drivers were apprehended – nine were given 90-day IRP’s and three drivers were issued 3-day IRP’s.

Langley RCMP is committed to ensuring everyone travelling through the Langleys makes it safely to their destination this Holiday Season.

Dedicated patrols, focussing on the high-risk driving behaviours resulted in the apprehension of a significant number of impaired drivers on the first weekend of the campaign.

In addition to the impaired drivers, two prohibited drivers were caught, 23 speeding tickets issued and 16 violation tickets were issued for intersection related violations (stop signs, red lights…).

One driver was issued a cell phone ticket as well. Nine drivers were found in contravention of regulatory offences including no insurance, no license.

All told, fines, fees and penalties associated to the above total over $25,000. Drivers in receipt of a second IRP or Cell Phone ticket will also be subject to a driver risk premium of $533. $25,000!!!!! That’s a lot of Christmas presents!

Langley RCMP would like to thank the vast majority of motorist who chose not to drive while impaired, and to seek alternative methods to get home safely. The RCMP will continue with their efforts throughout the Holiday Season.
