RCMP officer shot in B.C. during traffic stop has second surgery

Darpan News Desk, The Canadian Press, 05 Dec, 2014 01:54 PM

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — An RCMP officer who was critically shot during a traffic stop in Kamloops, B.C., has had a second surgery.

Cpl. Jean Michaud was still recovering from his first operation after he suffered critical injuries early Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Cpl. Cheryl Bush says the 40-year-old's family is by his side and his colleagues are looking after their needs.

She says Mounties would like to thank the public for the outpouring of support since Michaud was gunned down by a suspect who sped off as an officer in a second cruiser fired back.

Thirty-six-year-old Kenneth Knutson was captured after a 12-hour manhunt during which police warned they were looking for at least one person believed to be armed and dangerous.

Knutson is facing four charges, including attempted murder, and he has a long rap sheet, including a conviction of criminal negligence causing death a decade ago.
