RCMP say B.C. hockey dad might get charged for threatening son's referee

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 27 Feb, 2015 10:18 AM

PENTICTON, B.C. — Police are recommending charges against a B.C. father who allegedly yelled threats at a referee after his son's junior hockey game.

Sgt. Rick Dellebuur says the 52-year-old Kamloops man confronted a referee walking to his vehicle after a game in Penticton on Feb. 20.

He says the man's son held him back as he screamed at and threatened the referee, before punching his vehicle as he drove away.

Dellebuur says the incident happened after a B.C. Hockey League game between the Merritt Centennials and Penticton Vees, and the man's son plays on the Merritt team.

He says the allegations are not something investigators often deal with, and RCMP are recommending charges of uttering threats.

Both the boy's coach and B.C. Hockey League declined to comment on the matter. (Kamloops This Week)
