WINNIPEG — Manitoba is promising to install sprinklers in all care homes over the next decade.
The upgrades were recommended in a report from the fire commissioner that was prompted by a fatal fire at a Quebec seniors home last year.
The sprinklers are expected to cost $125 million, but the government has only budgeted $70 million so far.
Labour Minister Erna Braun says the province will find the money in the budget.
One-third of 200 care facilities in Manitoba don't have sprinklers.
Just over 80 per cent of residential and child-care facilities in the province don't have sprinklers either.
