Resuscitation efforts fail as two people, including baby, die in Regina fire

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 06 Jan, 2015 10:50 AM

REGINA — A woman and a baby boy are dead after a house fire in Regina.

Firefighters were called to the scene just east of the downtown around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputy fire chief Gerard Kay says a passerby saw the flames and pulled the victims from the home.

"Crews, along with EMS, worked on the two individuals and transported them to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries."

Kay says the entire home was gutted.

"The entire roof system has collapsed. The area around the house is like a skating rink. There's a lot of water and ice so it will be treacherous until city crews can do some sanding and salting."

The fire flared up later in the morning, prompting crews to return to the scene.

The names of the victims have not been released and there's no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
