Some sad news for the South Asian community and the community at large. Richmond RCMP report that they have lost one of their finest and most valuable officers Cst. Jasmine Thiara (#64971).

Richmond RCMP issued this official statement regarding her demise.

“We continue to deal with the overwhelming shock and grief over the loss of one of our Richmond RCMP police officers on Sunday February 21, 2021. The death happened while they were off duty and the BC Coroners Service is conducting an investigation to determine the facts surrounding the death.

According to reports circulating Officer Thiara allegedly shot herself underneath the Oak Street Bridge.

Their family has asked for privacy so we have not discussed the loss publicly. However, information around the death has been shared with the greater RCMP family so we can all come together to deal with the tragic news about one of our own. Supports are in place for both their family and our colleagues, and we will continue to monitor everyone’s wellness moving forward.”
