Rob Ford Begins Recovery After Successful Surgery To Remove Tumour

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 May, 2015 12:57 PM
TORONTO — Rob Ford faces months of recovery following successful surgery at a Toronto hospital to remove a cancerous tumour from his abdomen.

The former Toronto mayor was under anaesthesia for about 10 hours on Monday, but was conscious and was visited by his family once the surgery was complete.

Ford's chief of staff, Dan Jacobs, says doctors performing the operation found no new growths and were able to remove all existing growths.

Jacobs says Ford, now a city councillor, is in "some pain," and doctors have told him he will need to "take it especially easy" for up to three months.

Ford's surgery followed several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation which he said had reduced his tumour to an operable size.

Ford abandoned his mayoral re-election bid last September then won a council seat instead after doctors discovered his rare, aggressive malignant liposarcoma.
