Rob Ford Speaks To Supporters At Fundraiser From Hospital Bed

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 May, 2015 10:46 AM
TORONTO — Rob Ford called in from his hospital bed to thank people for their support after his recent cancer surgery.

The former Toronto mayor also thanked those who attended a fundraiser Thursday night, as his brother Doug played the call from his cellphone.

Doug Ford ran unsuccessfully for mayor after Rob ended his re-election campaign when he received the cancer diagnosis.

The former mayor faces months of recovery following successful surgery at a Toronto hospital to remove a cancerous tumour from his abdomen.

His surgery followed several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation which he said had reduced his tumour to an operable size.

Ford abandoned his mayoral re-election bid last September after doctors discovered his rare, aggressive malignant liposarcoma. He was elected to council instead.

"I want to thank everyone for coming tonight and for all the best wishes you've given to our family and myself. We really appreciated all the support and hope to see you soon," Rob Ford said over the phone.
