Search For Missing 21-Year-Old Vancouver Man On Nearby North Shore Mountains Called Off

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 Jan, 2015 10:57 AM
VANCOUVER — The search for a 21-year-old hiker on Vancouver's North Shore Mountains has been called off for now.

Two days of looking for Liang Jin have been complicated by avalanches that have made trails dangerous and erased any possible tracks.

Mike Danks of North Shore Rescue says searchers will regroup and reassess, and the investigation is being handed to the Vancouver Police Department.

Jin is from Vancouver and sent a text message to his father on New Year's Eve saying he was going hiking, but gave no indication where he planned to walk, and he has not been seen or heard from since.

A further search of his computer and Internet search history found that he was interested in the area of Lynne Headwaters and the Hanes Valley.

It is believed Jin would have taken a bus from the city to the North Shore, and the bus company is now reviewing surveillance tapes.
