Searchers Look For Cowboy Whose Horse Returned Without Him In Merritt

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 30 Jan, 2019 02:03 AM

MERRITT, B.C. — Search and rescue crews, RCMP and others are scouring an area of Merritt, B.C., looking for a cowboy whose horse was found in full gear on Monday without its rider.

Police say loggers in the area reached out to some local ranchers who were able to identify the owner of the horse.

They say the man is a 32-year-old local man who was last seen Saturday at about 2 p.m.

Police say because it was the man's days off, it's unclear when he may have set out to the backcountry.

Police dog services, about 40 search and rescue members, snowmobilers and RCMP air support have been looking for any signs of the man since Monday.

RCMP say active logging in the area and herds of wild horses have made finding tracks for the rider difficult.
