  • Shooting at Langley Sportsplex leaves man in his 40s dead

Another deadly shooting has taken place in broad daylight South of The Fraser.

According to IHIT a man said to be in his 40s was shot and killed at the Langley Sportsplex on 91A Avenue just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The Langley Sportsplex houses ice rinks, daycares, and gymnasiums and would have been open at the time of the shooting.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Frank Jang said “There were a number of people here, families,”

He added “The Sportsplex … is a skating rink, there’s a children’s playground inside. There were a number of young people, parents, going about their daily business when this happened.”

Jang said at this time they will not be releasing the victim's identity but they believe they know who it is.

“He was very well known to police, and we believe his death was targeted,” Jang said, adding that if the victim is who they think he is, he was linked to gang activity.

Police have linked a Grey Dodge pickup truck to the shooting which was found burned in the 1200 block of Riverside Drive in Port Coquitlam.

Police are looking for any dashcam video that was shot at the Sportsplex as early as 8:30 a.m., or on the route between Langley and Port Coquitlam, including the Golden Ears Bridge or Lougheed Highway.
