Short Cut Goes Wrong For Family Rescued Out Of Bounds Near Kamloops Ski Resort

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 09 Feb, 2016 11:24 AM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A family of six had to be rescued from avalanche terrain Monday after they skied out of bounds at the Sun Peaks Resort north of Kamloops, B.C.

Kamloops Search and Rescue manager Alan Hobler says the father used a cell phone to call rescuers after he realized the family was in trouble.

Hobler says the group ducked under the rope at Sun Peaks at about 3 p.m. Monday, because the father thought it would be a shortcut back to the lodge.

The RCMP helicopter was bought in and the group, including children ranging in age from six to 13, was located.

There was concern because searchers noted the six were in avalanche terrain, but crews were able to reach them and walk them to safety.

Hobler says the father was extremely upset when he realized he had endangered his entire family.
