SIU Identifies Drowned Man In Ottawa As Suspect In London Cellphone Death

The Canadian Press, 30 Jun, 2015 10:43 AM
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Ontario's police watchdog says a man pulled from a river in Ottawa is one of the suspects wanted in the death of a man who tried to get his cellphone back in London, Ont.

The Special Investigations Unit says the body has been identified as Muhab Sultanaly Sultan, 23, who went into the Rideau River last week, fell under and never surfaced.

Ottawa police allege Sultan, who is from Calgary, tried to run down two officers on bicycles last Wednesday, which led to a chase that ended near the river.

They say two suspects jumped out and ran away, with one going into the river in an alleged escape attempt.

London police had previously issued an arrest warrant for Sultan for second-degree murder in the death of Jeremy Cook, 18, who had tracked down his lost phone to a car, where police say he was shot and killed.

The SIU is called in to investigate reports involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
