Son Of Toronto Real-Estate Developer Charged In Los Angeles Murder

The Canadian Press, 30 May, 2016 01:03 PM
LOS ANGELES — A man arrested in Los Angeles in connection with the alleged murder of his girlfriend is reportedly the son of a wealthy Toronto real estate developer.

Police with the Los Angeles sheriff's department say Blake Leibel, 35, was arrested last Thursday for the murder of his 30-year-old girlfriend Iana Kaplan, who was the mother of his child.

Police say Kaplan's mother called to report her daughter missing.

They say that when they searched the home that the younger Leibel shared with Kaplan, they found Kaplan's body in the bedroom with what looked like blunt force trauma to her head.

Investigators say they found Leibel elsewhere in the home.

According to a sheriff's department database, Leibel was charged with a felony the same day Kaplan's body was found.

The same database says Leibel was charged with another felony six days earlier, and released with a court date scheduled for June 17.

Leibel is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

The National Post reports that Leibel is the son of Toronto-area businessman Lorne Leibel, the owner of Touchstone Homes.

A representative from Touchstone Homes declined to comment, and the younger Leibel's lawyer did not immediately respond when contacted by phone and email.
