  • South Asian couple in Alberta charged with drug offences in relation to shooting

Calgary RCMP have charged a South Asian couple from Rocky View County with drug and weapons offences after an investigation into a gunshot at their neighbour’s house.

A man from Rocky View County called police after his upstairs bedroom window was smashed by a bullet around 1 a.m. on Feb. 24.

According to a news release by the Mounties on Monday, they executed a search warrant on the house adjacent to the man's 48 hours later.

In the neighboring home to the man's police found 28.4 grams of crack cocaine, 271.5 grams of cocaine, 362.8 grams of fentanyl, approximately 700 grams of benzocaine, a restricted handgun and carbine-style rifle, ammunition, $80,000 in cash and a “cell phone-style” stun gun.

Harinder Brar, 30, and his wife, Hazel Brar, 30, of Rocky View County, have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking for the fentanyl and cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The police are still looking into the initial shooting complaint and have not laid charges in relation to that incident.

The couple is due in court on March 25th.
