Staff, Parents Stop Woman Who Attempted To Abduct Child At Victoria’s George Jay Elementary School

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 16 Oct, 2015 11:32 AM
VICTORIA — A woman has been arrested in Victoria after allegedly attempting to abduct a child from a stroller.

Police say they were called to an elementary school at around 3 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a woman trying to leave the area with a child who was not hers.

The incident occurred after a caregiver arrived at the school to pick up a student, pushing a stroller carrying the child's younger sibling.

Police say the caregiver was approached by another woman who she did not know and that the unknown woman reached down and tried to take a child out of the stroller.

Police say the caregiver, school staff and parents realized that something was wrong and separated the second woman from the children.

Officers arrived and took the unknown woman into custody and say and she was transported to hospital for assessment though it's unlikely that charges will be recommended.
